Hunter's Stew - Jachtschotel
A rich, warming winter stew. For 4 servings
- 300 gr onions
- 50 gr butter
- 300 gr finely chopped cooked meat
- 300 ml stock
- 500 gr mashed potatoes
- 500 gr peeled chopped apples
- pepper, salt
- tablespoon breadcrumbs
Fry onions in half of the butter until pale golden brown. Add meat, stock and seasoning, stir well. Melt the rest of the butter in an oven-proof dish and place meat mixture, apples and potatoes in layers finishing with a layer of potatoes. Dot with butter, sprinkle with breadcrumbs and bake in a moderately hot oven - 375 F, mark 5 for 20 minutes.
Tip: this dish can also be made with left-over game - hence the name "Hunters's Stew".
