Dutch Spice Cake - Kruidkoek

A tasty cake variation which provides a real taste of Holland

  • 250 gr flour
  • 200 gr dark brown caster sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoons ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoons ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoons nutmeg powder
  • 100 gr butter
  • ½ dl milk
  • 10 gr ginger

Preheat the oven to 160°C. Melt the butter. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, spices, melted butter and milk into a dough. Mix in the ginger and pour the dough into a greased cake tin.

Cooking time: 40-75 minutes depending on the size and shape of the cake tin. Start checking after 30 minutes. When ready, remove the cake from the oven and leave to cool for a while. Once the cake is cool enough to handle, remove from the tin and leave to cool completely.
